Nyeri - Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) rangers have arrested two suspected poachers at the expansive Solio Ranch in Kieni West sub county, Nyeri county.
Among those arrested was a Tanzanian witchdoctor who was expected to ensure their safety during the mission.
Two rifles were also recovered after the rangers followed them using the sniffer dogs up to the neigbouring Lamuria village.
Nyeri police commander, Agnes Lihabi, on Wednesday told journalists that the two middle aged poachers had already tried to kill a white rhino on Monday at the expansive ranch but in vain.
The rangers, together with the police, later followed them where they found four of them sleeping in one house.
Two escaped while the remaining two were arrested with 303 and 458 rifles.
One of the rifles had one live bullet and had been used to shoot at the white rhino but missed.
Lihabi said the two will be arraigned in court soon.
