Two students killed by speeding lorry

10 June 2015, 11:10 Wilshere

Nakuru - Two students from Kieni secondary school in Subukia town died Wednesday morning after being run over by a speeding lorry.

The two male students were heading to school when the accident occurred, at around 6:00 am.

According to Kabazi ward MCA, Waithaka Mwangi, the accident was caused by two speeding lorries that were heading towards Subukia trading center.

Mwangi said that the two lorry drivers had reportedly fought earlier in the morning at Kabazi trading center before the accident.

“The accident was caused by two lorry drivers who had a scuffle at Kabazi trading center,” he said.

At the same time, the MCA said there is need to erect bumps along the Nakuru-Subukia road to help reduce cases of road accidents.

Police officers from Kirengero police station had a difficult time controlling local residents and students who blocked the road protesting the killing of the two students.

The local residents also lamented that the Nyahuru - Nakuru road had taken long to be completed.

Area MCA together with local residents now want the ministry of roads to revoke the contract awarded to Nyoro construction company for failing to repair the road in time.
