Two robbery suspects shot dead in Nairobi's CBD

25 February 2014, 14:22 Victor Tinto

Nairobi - Two suspected robbery suspects have been shot dead in Nairobi's CBD along Moi Avenue.

The two were gunned down in separate incidents, one along Kamba lane and the other close to Nation Center in the city centre. A civilian was injured in the shootings by a stray bullet and rushed to hospital, though reports confirmed that she was in stable condition.

The two were suspected to be in a four man gang that was allegedly planning attacks on banks and other installations in the city. Two pistols were recovered in the incident.

Central Police Station OCPD Patrick Oduma said that gangsters had  been trailed for hours by security personnel who managed to stop them, but added that two others had escaped.

" We managed to catch-up with two of them while two others escaped and we are hunting them down as we speak, he said.

He also confirmed that a civilian, a woman had been shot in the ensuing shooting adding that he was glad that she was not badly injured.

" We are told she is stable, he added.

The incident adds to a rising number of such cases in the Central Business District, with robbers not afraid to attack innocent Kenyans in the light of day.

In the last few weeks there have been over ten gangsters shot dead by police, in incidents believed to target Kenyans operating in banks or carrying valuables.

Oduma was adamant that such cases are being controlled by police.

" We have a strong network of policemen in the city and we are confident that we are slowly but surely making the city safer.
