Two men try to smuggle bhang to inmates

05 June 2014, 14:00 Oduor Omondi

Kisumu - Two middle-aged men caused a stir at the Kisumu Law Courts on Wednesday after they allegedly attempted to smuggle 20 rolls of bhang to inmates within the court precincts.

Denise Oremo and Patrick Ochollah were however arrested in the court’s corridors as they struggled to smuggle the drugs apparently to their colleagues who had appeared in court for mention of their robbery with violence case.

An eyewitness who was suspicious of the two men alerted the police who made the arrests. The two suspects are being held at the Kisumu’s Central Police Station to help in investigation.

Meanwhile, a 14 year old boy drowned in a swimming pool in Kisumu.

The boy, Jairus Ochieng’ went missing yesterday after he went swimming at 1.00 pm at Milimani resort hotel with his friends from the Kuap-pandipieri Street children home based in Nyalenda.

Confirming the incident Kisumu Deputy OCPD, Joe Lekuta said the incident was reported by Pamela Atieno Were, the caretaker of the institution after a futile search for the teenager.

Lekuta added that the boy was later found unconscious by the Resort manager Tom Ojowi who informed the caretaker.

He was rushed to the Aga Khan hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival and the body has since been moved to Jaramogi Oginga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.

The deputy OCPD expressed concern over the drowning incidences in the area adding that a few days ago, a pupil lost his life after drowning in a well in Delphas Academy under unclear circumstances.
