Two lynched after motorcycle robbery attempt

26 July 2012, 12:47Alloys Musyoka

One person escaped death narrowly while two of his accomplices were mercilessly killed by mob justice for being suspected to be motorcycle thieves in Malindi.

The suspects are said to have attempted to rob a motorcycle from bodaboda operators in broad daylight before their ordeal.

One of the suspects was burned to death and another was beaten to death in Sabasaba village by an angry mob which was hunting them.

According to Maweni area chief the three had plotted to steal a motorcycle but their plans were thwarted by members of public who lynched them.

One suspected thief boarded a motorcycle and said he wanted to be taken to Malindi Hospital but on reaching Sabasaba his accomplice stopped the motorcycle, but the owner locked it and ran away before he came back with his colleagues and started looking for the thief.

They proceeded to his home where they set ablaze the house before they arrested him at Kijiwetanga where he mentioned his accomplice who were also sought.

The chief went on to add that after they lynched the first suspect they proceeded and arrested the second one at Muyeye beating him mercilessly to death before police arrived and collected the bodies of the deceased.

The third suspect escaped death narrowly as he disappeared as his friend was being set ablaze.

Confirming the incident area OCPD Kiprono Lang’at said that the two bodies were later taken to Malindi police station before they were taken to Malindi District Hospital Mortuary.

Lang'at said that they had not arrested any suspect over the matter but warned residents against taking law into their hands.
