Ongata Rongai - Ongata Rongai OCPD has put rogue drivers on notice after a matatu plying the Nairobi - Rongai road killed two people and injured several others in an early Wednesday morning accident.
According to an eyewitness, David Kurgat, the matatu which was over speeding was overtaking other vehicles hit a motorcycle heading towards the same direction.
Another pedestrian was crossing the road when the motorcycle hit him first, before being run over by the same matatu which dragged him for over 20 meters before stopping.
The motorcycle rider suffered serious injuries while his passenger died on the spot; the pedestrian also died instantly.
The injured passengers were rushed to nearby hospitals while the mangled wreck of the vehicle was towed to Rongai Police Station.
Residents of Rongai have consistently pleaded with the traffic department to erect road signs and bumps along the road, which is located on a slope, to no avail.
Last week, a tuk tuk overturned near Maasai lodge injuring several passengers.
Ongata Rongai OCPD Francis Sang has urged pedestrians to be careful on the roads. He also urged passengers to put on their safety belts to avoid such incidents and put rogue drivers on the notice. He has asked the police to conduct a major crack down to apprehend traffic offenders.
