Two killed by unknown assailants in Butere

22 May 2013, 12:19 Jayne Pamba

Butere - Security has been beefed up in Butere, Mumias sub-county after an attack by unknown assailants yesterday that left two people dead.

Confirming the incident, area police boss Paul Wanjama said a five-man gang stormed Emachifu area of Irunga sub-location at the home of William Otalo, aged 42 years and shot him dead before robbing him KES 14,000 and other assorted household items.

"The robbers were armed with an unknown firearm stormed the deceased's home at around midnight and shot him dead after he opened the door," Wanjama said.

However, his wife and kids who witnessed the whole incident were unhurt.

The deceased's brother Macdold Outa, 51, met his death on his way to the late brother's house 50meters away after he heard the gunshot.

"We established that he met the robbers on his way to his brothers home, they shot him and died on the spot," the OCPD added.

The bodies were moved to St. Mary's mission hospital in Mumias.

No suspect had been arrested so far in connection with the incident.

Police have launched a manhunt for the five suspects and urged the locals to volunteer and give any information that could lead  to their arrest.

"We will ensure that they are brought to book in order to curb this menace". Wanjama assured.
