Two in ICU following Nyeri court attack

Nyeri - Two people were Thursday hospitalized at the Outspan hospitals' Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after they were stabbed with knives outside Nyeri Law Courts.
The incident occurred after two political factions, one supporting Laikipia East MP Mutahi Kimaru and another opposing his leadership, faced each other.
The attackers however escaped but police launched their manhunt immediately.
According to an eyewitness, Winnie Nyambura, the other group was pledging support to former area Constituency Development Fund (CDF) chairman, Amin Mohammed Ali.
Nyambura said the victims sustained critical chest and stomach injuries and were rushed to the hospital.
Anti-riot police officers were immediately deployed outside the court to contain the situation.

The more than 100 people had escorted Amin to Nyeri High Court to attend hearing of an ongoing case which he filed to challenge his ouster from the CDF chairmanship.
He told the court that his sacking on July 29, 2013 was unlawful and unconstitutional.
He further told the court that his removal from the office and appointment of another chairman was not within the legal framework.
Amin was removed from office following disagreements with the MP, three months into his tenure.
He in turn alleged that his removal was caused by his refusal to participate in corruption malpractices and fund misappropriation, a statement that the MP refuted.
