2 arrested for murder threat

30 January 2013, 15:06Wangui Joseph

Police in Nyeri are holding two men suspected of threatening to kill in order to extort money from the former Nyaribo ward councilor Jackson Mutahi Wangari.

According to police investigations, Antony Nderitu and Martin Mario Wambui are believed to have a bid to extort money from the former councilor by intimidating him with murder threats.

Speaking at Nyeri police station on Monday, Mutahi said he received a phone call on January 23 from a man who claimed had been given KES150 000 to eliminate him but since he is a good man they will spare him.

Mutahi added that the man demanded for KES 5 000 to abort the mission claiming they had already received KES 100 000 and would receive the balance after the murder.

“The two men claimed that they had been looking for me since the aftermath of TNA nominations though I lost”, said Mutahi 50 and a former village elder.

The single term councilor reported the matter to Nyeri Police station and investigations commenced immediately leading to the arrest of the two.

“They had called me 28 times demanding money. I know the two men very well and their parents are my good friends for we live in the same location,” said Mutahi who was in the company of his wife.

Allegedly, the two suspects had told the councilor to meet up at King’ong’o so that he can hand over the ransom but wisely went there with police officers in an attempt to abort the plot.

Unknowingly, they approached him to get the amount but were arrested though one of them managed to escape and has gone into hiding.

However, Martin, a casual labourer at Embassy area in King’ong’o Estate claimed that on the material day, someone he referred to as Chege borrowed his phone to make a call but never knew whom he was calling.

The two are expected to be arraigned in court after police investigations.
