Two die in a road accident

03 July 2013, 16:04 Wangui Joseph

Two people died in a road accident that involved a personal car and a lorry along the Nyeri - Karatina Road on Wednesday morning.

According to Nyeri Deputy Police Chief Zachary Ng’eno, the deceased were travelling in the car heading to Nyeri town.

Ng’eno said the car driver died on the spot; a lady who was in the same car was pronounced dead at the Nyeri Provincial General Hospital.

He said the lorry driver was driving speedily and lost direction at Wambugu Agricultural Training Institute before it rammed on the oncoming car.
The driver later escaped in the nearby coffee plantations but  Ng’eno said the police are hunting for  him.

He cautioned motorists to be careful while driving along the road which is in deplorable condition due to potholes.

Members of the public attributed the accident to the road condition and requested the responsible authorities to repair it since accidents have become rampant along the road recently.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to the Provincial Hospital morgue while the vehicles were towed to Nyeri Police station.
