Turkana Governor sues EACC for defamation
13 April 2015, 18:54
Nairobi - Turkana Governor Josephat Nanok has sued the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commision EACC for defaming him by mentioning him in a corruption report.
The Governor in an application Monday to the High Court, states that the EACC has defamed him by having his name announced in the public domain as part of a report detailing corruption in the public service.
Nanok insists that he has not been given a chance to defend himself of charges leveled against him by the EACC and that he has suffered irreparable damage to his reputation in the process.
The Governor was among 12 County bosses named in the report and has been asked to step aside and allow investigations from the EACC.
Thus far, none has stepped aside.
Nanok is the first public official implicated in the EACC report to sue the EACC.
6 officials have so far stepped aside pending investigations including 5 Cabinet Secretaries and Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko.
