Truck drivers nabbed with 20 underage girls at Salgaa

14 April 2015, 12:01 Jackson Okata

Nakuru - Twenty long distance truck drivers were Monday night arrested at the famous Salgaa trading center after they were found hiding underage girls in their trucks.

Police officers arrested the drivers after receiving information about a woman who had organised the meet up between the girls and the drivers.

Rongai police boss, Joseph Mwamburi said that the drivers had paid the woman KES 3 000 to be allowed to sleep with the underage girls inside their trucks.

"We received a tip about a woman who has been using underage girls as a bait of getting money from truck drivers at Salgaa, and we laid a trap and arrested 20 drivers with 20 underage girls last night. We are planning to take them to court this morning," said Mwamburi.

The woman behind the scheme was also arrested and is being held by the police.

Mwamburi called on Salgaa residents to team up against the rampant child sex trade in the area.

"Child sex trade is on the high especially during school holidays and police and local authorities are much alert to deal with it and I want the locals especially parents to help fight this vice," he said.

He warned parents against using their children in sex trade as a way of getting money from truck drivers.
