Trans-Nzoia MPs threaten to impeach their Governor

Nairobi – MPs from Trans-Nzoia County have threatened to mobilize the County assembly members to impeach their Governor, Patrick Khaemba for ignoring other elected leaders in the County’s projects.
The more than five legislators led by Kiminini MP, Chris Wamalwa accused Khaemba of running the County single-handedly and ignoring the MPs who are also key stakeholders in the management of County projects.
Wamalwa said the witnessed riots and rowdy demonstrations by County residents and the assault of local journalists by County security officers is due to Khaemba’s non-inclusivity conduct.
“The Governor should deal with the acts of negligence against the people of Trans-Nzoia which has led to the current riots,” said Wamalwa.
He asked Khaemba to desist from limiting residents' constitutional right to hold demonstrations to air their grievances.
“He should pull up his socks and change his leadership to be all-inclusive,” said Wamalwa.

Cherangani MP, Wesley Korir said it was enough for the Governor to isolate other leaders and warned that aggrieved legislators could resort to Khaemba’s ouster if he doesn’t involve them in the County’s management.
“We may be forced to use constitutional avenues because we would rather not have a Governor in office, than have one who does not involve others in local leadership decisions,” warned Korir.
Nominated Senator, Zipporah Kittony raised the concern that although the County is an investment destination, the ongoing chaos was scaring away investors.
She lamented that the County lacked a strategic plan three years since devolution began, pointing out that it was lagging behind despite its economic and investment potential.
“The problem is that the Governor is working in isolation but he needs to consult more. How do you implement projects without consulting all leaders?” posed Kittony.
Saboti MP, David Wafula said lack of teamwork in the running of the County particularly the Governor’s move to isolate other leaders was causing divisions and tension.
