Bungoma - A 35-year-old Nakuru businessman has been arraigned before a court in Sirisia, Bungoma County, for allegedly defiling a standard six girl in Cheptais Market.
Stephen Wanjohi Kathira, an onion and tomatoes trader, was found with the underage girl who is a pupil at Cheptais SDA Primary School locked inside a guest house in the local trading centre last weekend.
Kathira appeared before Sirisia resident magistrate, Francis Kiambia, on Wednesday where he was charged with two counts of defilement and indecently assaulting the minor by touching her private parts.

The trader denied the claims and the court released him on a cash bail of KES 100 000 and a surety of a similar amount.
Francis Kiambia ruled that the case be mentioned on February 9, 2015 and set the hearing for March, 21, 2015.
Speaking to the press outside the court precincts, Eunice Chepchumba, the Mt Elgon Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organisation chairlady, decried the increased number of defilement cases in the region and asked the courts to give stiff sentences to culprits involved in the vice to act as a deterrent.
