Tout arrested with KES 700 000 fake money

Bungoma - Police in Bungoma town Friday arrested a youthful tout and impounded KES 700 000 fake money in KES 1 000 denomination.
Bungoma County Administration Police commander Paul Soi confirmed that Fazul Ramadhan was arrested while in the process of conning a local businessman.
“The suspect had duped the trader that he had the power to triple his money by praying for it, the victim did not notice any foul play until his friend tipped the police on patrol who pounced on the suspect as he was about to con the trader,” said Soi
The suspect a resident of Miritini in Mombasa is a tout with the long distance trucks which ferries goods to Kampala and is alleged to be among a cartel distributing fake money in Western region.
“After our hawk eyed officers on patrol were tipped of the incident they moved in with speed and caught the suspect red handed and upon searching him they found the fake money and was arrested and brought to the station for interrogation,” said the AP commander.
Soi said that they will crack on the syndicate which has led to many traders losing their genuine hard earned money to a cartel of crooks who prey on get rich quick traders hence fleecing them.
“We are suspecting that the fake notes are circulated at night to unsuspecting members of the public and we are appealing to the public to be vigilant when making transactions,” said the AP boss.
He said that the youth had been dropped in Bungoma by a trailer heading to Uganda to transact the business and was expected to follow the driver after the deal is sealed.
Soi further said that police suspect that the suspect has his accomplices in Bungoma and he will assist with investigations so that they can crack down on the syndicate of fake money distribution which has led to traders incurring losses.
He called on M-PESA agents to be on the lookout when carrying out transactions especially at night adding that the impounded fake money had one serial number and faint water mark was not clear for all the notes.
He called on members of the public to be watchful to avoid incidences of being conned of their hard earned cash by a cartel distributing fake money in order to curb crime.
