Tourist kills thug in Malindi

19 March 2013, 13:18 Alloys Musyoka

A suspected gangster was on Monday shot dead while his accomplice escaped with gun injuries as they attempted to rob a couple at Malindi beach in Kilifi County.

The two armed gangsters are said to have demanded for cash from the two tourists who were walking along the Ocean Beach Resort.

They were armed with swords but the tourist relaxed and asked them to wait so that he could give them money only to produce a pistol which he used to shoot one of them dead.

Sources also added that the other suspect was shot on his leg but managed to escaped to an unknown destination.
It is alleged that the tourist whose name has not been identified was on holiday with his wife and is licensed to carry a fire arm.

According to reports from Ocean Beach Resort, it was the second time for the tourist to be targeted by thugs.

“There is a time one of the tourists was robbed off his properties by bandits while on holiday in Malindi,” said a source.

Director of Ocean Beach Roberto Marini said they have already increased the number of security guards patrolling the Resort beach to avoid the occurrence of such incidents.

He called on police to increase security patrols in the tourist town and especially at the beach to guarantee maximum security to visitors touring the area.

Malindi District Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha confirmed the incident saying he was still waiting to get briefing from area police boss on the matter.

However, Malindi police boss Kiprono Lang’at kept on telling media to wait.

“Okay. I will call you later and give you more information on the matter please,” he told journalists on phone.
