The Kenya Tourism Federation will deploy observers in key tourism circuits to monitor the security situation during the General Election period.
Stakeholders in all major circuits have been asked to provide volunteers to participate in the security operation known as ‘election period operating procedures’ which will run from March 3 - 5.
Rosemary Adhiambo of the federation’s safety and communication centre said the field observers will be deployed on various routes in the tourism circuits to monitor the security situation.
The observers will be expected to relay their reports to the coordinating center for dissemination to industry operators and advise them accordingly.
Routes in Mt Kenya circuit that have been proposed for coverage are Nanyuki, Narumoru, Mweiga and Kiganjo.
“The purpose of this operation is to ensure the safety of tourists and tourism operators and shield the sector from being adversely affected in case of election related issues,” she said in a circular.
However, Adhiambo said the success of the operation would depend on the support of stakeholders who should volunteer observers, vehicles, accommodation and lunch for those participating.
