Tough decisions lie in wait for Raila, ODM

Nairobi - Tough decisions await the Orange Democratic Movement ODM as a decision on whether to kick out rogue executive director Magerer Lang'at beckons.
Lang'at and others have been summoned to appear before a disciplinary commitee investigating their conduct in recent times.
The under-fire Lang'at has been accused of sponsoring hate speech and revolt against party leader Raila Odinga.
He is thus under pressure to leave the party, with Odinga himself also under pressure from loyalists to remove him from his present position and kick him out of the party for his perceived comments.
And that position is likely to be re-enforced ahead of the summon Tuesday after more comments from the embattled Lang'at seemed to point to a rebuke on Odinga and his leadership.
In an interview, Lang'at said that the troubles within the party are all thanks to Raila's lack of adequate leadership and accused the ODM boss of sponsoring violent protests that saw him roughed up two weeks ago.
And as party insiders say, it is likely that Lang'at, now suspended from his position will be kicked out.
" He will be kicked out of the party. I can assure you that, an insider who did not want to be named told News24.
" The amount of dissent from him in the wake of the attack as well as comments emanating from him on the party and his position are all wrong and must be looked at with the toughest punishment possible and that is what will be done".
" Raila has lost patience in him," the insider added.
Magerer has already said that he will not quit the party unless forced out and insists he his still a member of the orange movement.
" I am still in the party and that will not change. Unless I am told to pack and go, he said.
That said, other members of the party fear that ODM will lose its foothold in the rift region if Lang'at is kicked out. Most see the decision to kick him out as costly in the long run.
" I think it will portray the party as lacking in ideals that allow democratic space and that will not be good. The party will also lose a potentially helpful following in the rift region and I do not think that will be wise, Geoffrey Mubatuka, a political analyst says.
All pointers though are that Magerer will be reprimanded and kicked out of ODM.
" I have fought for this party for long and stood behind the party leader even in hard times. This will not cow me," Magerer offered a parting shot.
