Nairobi - Director of Public Prosecutions DPP Keriako Tobiko says that the incident in which a woman in Nairobi was stripped of her clothes be probed.
The incident occurred Tuesday after persons alleged to be touts cornered the woman for apparently dressing indecently and stripped her of all the clothes she had on as punishment.
The incident then went viral, causing outrage from women all over the country who demanded action be taken on the persons whose faces could be seen on video.
Tobiko has agreed with the sentiments, saying Friday, that it was an incident that violated the basic rights of Kenyans.
" On the 12/11/2014 the DPP forwarded the clip of the lady stripped along
Tom Mboya Street to The DCI (Director of Criminal Investigations) to
analyse with a view of identifying, apprehending and immediately
bringing to justice the perpetrators of this heinous incident, he said.
The incident has been condemned by female leaders in the country who have called on male folk to respect their sisters and treat them in the right manner.
It is understood that the persons who instigated the stripping are touts from the Embassava sacco that plies the Embakassi route in Nairobi.
A similar incident took place in Mombasa Thursday.
