Thugs rob passengers along Jogoo Rd
22 July 2013, 11:09
Passengers lost their money, phones and other valuables after thugs carjacked the bus they were travelling in along Jogoo Road on Saturday evening.
According to the conductor of the bus belonging to Embassava Sacco, the thugs pretended to be passengers and boarded the vehicle that was headed to the city center.
They then ordered all the passengers to lie down and robbed them, but the conductor managed to jump from the moving vehicle.
A crowd of people started to shout as they ran after the speeding bus that was driving towards Shauri Moyo estate.
They sought help from an Administration Police officer who was driving in a police Land rover but he said he could not offer any help.
“I am from Ramadan prayers at the mosque and I do not have a gun so there is nothing I can do to help. The thugs are armed and I am also a human being,” said the helpless officer.
“I have informed my colleagues in the control room and I think they will act immediately,” he said.
The conductor said that it was the third time that thugs hijacked their vehicle along the road.
The incident comes after Inspector General of police David Kimaiyo warned commuters against travelling in Citi hoppa buses saying that they risked being robbed.
Kimaiyo said Citti hoppa buses have been carjacked several times and that the drivers and conductors are suspected to have been colluding with the thugs to rob passengers.
He threatened to stop the buses from operating on the roads on suspicion that they take part in the incidences.
