Vihiga - Police in Luanda, Vihiga County, shot dead a man in his early 20s, who in the company of more than 20 others had attacked a shopkeeper at Mwilonje village, Wednesday night.
The owner of the shop that was robbed, Evans Oyiengo, said that the gang came at exactly 1am armed with crude weapons and attempted to break into the shop.
“The gang arrived at around 1am. I was in the shop with my brother and quickly hid on the ceiling of the shop while they were breaking in. It took them around 15 minutes to break in, of which I managed to call the chief who came immediately with the police,” narrated Oyiengo.
The gang stole KES 70 000 in cash, airtime scratch cards worth KES 30 000 and many other goods from the shop, including ten mobile phones that customers had brought for charging.
Confirming the incident, Emuhaya police boss, Benson Kilonzo, said they have nabbed one suspect who is helping with investigations.
“We have only managed to get hold of one suspect and hopefully he will help with the investigation into the whereabouts of the others,” said Kilonzo.
The incident came a few hours after four suspected thugs were lynched by a mob at Viyalo village in Sabatia constituency on Wednesday afternoon.
