Nyeri - Three people lost their lives Saturday in two separate road accidents within Nyeri County.
In the first accident, two people perished along Nyeri-Marua-Kiganjo highway in Nyeri Central after the trailer they were traveling in overturned and rolled several times.
The trailer, which was on transit from Nanyuki to Nairobi, was carrying an empty container.
The accident occurred at Kirumia village near Kahigaini shopping centre, killing the driver and one of his two assistants on the spot.
The other assistant escaped death narrowly and is admitted at ICU department of Outspan Medical Center.
Efforts by residents to rescue the victims were futile since they were all trapped inside the cabin of the trailer.
They suspected that the driver was trying to negotiate the corner at the area which has been classified as an accident black spot when he lost control of the vehicle.
Speaking to reporters, Gabriel Kiama, a resident said he heard a loud bang while sleeping and went out to check what was happening only to find that a trailer had rolled and plunged into his farm.
He asked authorities to relocate him to another place adding that he feared for his life since many accidents have been witnessed near his farm.
Firefighters and police officers used grinders to remove the two bodies from the wreckage, an exercise that took several hours.
In a separate accident, one person died after another trailer swayed off the road and rolled into a river along Nyeri-Othaya road.
The driver also lost control of the empty trailer, breaking the guard rails of Ndunyi bridge black spot.
The lorry’s turn-boy died on the spot while the driver was rushed to Othaya District Hospital with serious injuries.
The accident, which occurred about six kilometers from Othaya town adversely affected the flow of traffic along the busy road.
