Nakuru - Three people have perished in an accident involving a truck and double cab pick up at Migaa slopes along Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
The driver of the pick up, a passenger in the same vehicle and the truck driver died on the spot when the trailer ferrying Soya beans from Busia to Nairobi lost control hitting the pick up that was headed in the opposite direction.
Officer in Charge of Rongai division, Joseph Mwamburi said that the accident was caused by a mechanical problem with the trailer.
“The driver of truck that was transporting soya beans from eldoret to Nakuru lost control of the vehicle after its brakes failed, hitting an oncoming double cab pick up belonging to the coffee research foundation while some parts of the two vehicles hit a mercedes benz heading to eldoret,” said the OCPD.
He added that the truck’s turn boy sustained injuries and was rushed to the Rift valley general hospital.
Area residents took the opportunity to benefit themselves from the Soya beans that had spilled from the trailer.

Mwamburi said that the number of accidents had reduced in the area since last year owing to warning signs and bumps erected by the Kenya National Highways Authority due to increased accidents.
He said that they had to request members of the public to sweep the spilled soya beans off the road to avoid causing more accidents.
The area between Salgaa - Mukinyai and Kibunja is a notorius black spot that has forced the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to deploy a patrol vehicle to crackdown on drivers flouting traffic rules.
Ibrahim Nyakoya, a resident in the area, blamed the high number of bumps for the accidents on the road adding that they confuse many drivers using the road.
The bodies of those who perished have been taken to the Nakuru County government mortuary while the wreakages have been towed to Salgaa traffic police base.
