Malindi - Three families in Malindi district are mourning death of their three relatives who drowned in the Indian Ocean on Tuesday morning as they were fishing about 200 meters from the sea shores of Jacaranda beach hotel.
The three Mathias Dume, Hussein Karisa and Karisa are said to have gone to sea early in the morning before they were overpowered by water.
Sources said that the three left their homes early in the morning for fishing but drowned later and their bodies were found by other fishermen.
According to a brother of one of the deceased Kai Mwambao, his brother Mathias Dume left home even before they had woken up and joined his colleagues to the sea.
He said his brother together with his colleagues always go fishing early in the morning specifically to collect fish in ponds.
Mwambao said that the three might have drowned after heavy sea water swept them as they continued with their activities 200 meter from the sea shores.
"They are not fishermen as such but men who go to collect fish left by sea water at different points few meters from the beach and so we think may be they were overpowered by strong sea water or fell in those ponds and drowned," he said.
Mwambao said that they were informed by fishermen who use boats when fishing about the deaths of the three.
"They were found by fishermen who informed us and then we went there and identified them before taking their bodies to a private hospital mortuary in Malindi," added the aggrieved man.
