Three gangsters shot dead in Mombasa

04 September 2015, 08:11 Ken Wekesa

Mombasa - Police in Mombasa have shot dead three armed gangsters believed to be behind a series of criminal activities in the town.

The wanted gunmen had earlier in the day robbed a shop in Sabasaba area when officers from special crime prevention unit started trailing them.

They were caught along Airport Road but after police fired at them, they plunged into a stationary lorry.

Changamwe OCPD, Joseph Muthee confirmed the incident saying one of the them had been booked at Changamwe police station for a robbery case due for hearing in November.

Muthee said said that two pistols, several rounds of ammunition, money in dollars and Kenya shillings were recovered.

He said that the incident should serve as a warning to other gangsters in the region.

Their bodies were transferred to Coast Provincial Hospital Mortuary awaiting identification and postmortem.

Security apparatus in Mombasa have embarked on a process of integrating smart policing into security operations to curb rising insecurity and align itself with global security best practices.
