The dirt and filth of modernity
01 September 2014, 08:37
Not so long ago, when the words 'hot' and 'cool' actually referred to temperature and being 'sexy' was positively criminal, life was slower, but better.
Laughter had no lyrics like 'haha'. It was something we did, not something we typed.
Love was not an art enjoyed on telly; it was a lifestyle.
Then came the fast pace of city life and things suddenly assumed flight mode and our joy and happiness and peace took the flight too.
The attendant confusion is astounding.
To move faster, you need a car, which is supposed to be fast, but because of traffic hiccups, it is much slower than pedestrians.
Therefore, you stew up in raging fury in your immobile car because you will not get to the office fast enough.
Well, old may not always be gold, but it is not the plastic you bump into when you are dealing with the new.
Today, if you are younger than our Head of State and you are not a serial bhang smoker, you are ever jilted and considered backward, outdated and even barbaric.
If you are younger than my 72- year-old grandmother and your cleavage and lots of meat is not generously ogling out, then you are not complete.
Partying, gambling, engaging publicly in socially unapproved copulation and a horde of other indecencies is the order of the day amongst our carefree youths.
A majority only dream of becoming Deejays, Drug Barons, and Miss Korogocho Beauty Pageant.
Some have no ambitions in life at all other than flexing their sinful muscles and earnestly striving to outwit the devil himself.
Other than embracing the naked reality of a life full of challenges and live a decent life, modern girls, boys, men and women have sadly chosen to live a fat, round and enormous lie day in day out.
Behind the huge lies, are suffering piteous people whose wee hours of the night are usually coated with bitterness, regret and tears.
Unaware of the gravity of the consequences of embracing an alluring yet misleading modernity, many a young men and women are viciously murdering their promising dreams and thus treading in that supposedly less taken road.
