The Yvonne Okwara debate
10 December 2014, 15:13
Nairobi - Just recently, the KTN TV presenter Yvonne Okwara got
married to –we would like to assume-the love of her life Andrew Matole.
barely have a few days passed after the nuptials and already there is a lot
that is coming up about the man. Not good stuff though, and the first thing I
just had to ask myself was whether there was something wrong with our beautiful
anchors. Because she clearly is beautiful and not just her but all the others
that have gone down the same route, we hardly need a reminder when we have
Esther Arunga, Cynthia Makuyu, Lillian Muli, Linda Oguttu. the list is just
endless. Rumors may just be that but always remember that where there is smoke
there is fire.
So I sit down and ask myself, these women are beautiful, are
at the top of the careers, are making their own money-basically they have what
most women would like to have going for them. So why do they settle for bad
seeds. This is not meant to sound like a judgment call because at the end of
the day, the heart wants what it wants. And I am sure I am not alone in my
musings, because it really does baffle the mind when you hear that one you
think has her head screwed on correctly had to change her wedding venue three
times just so that the man’s past women would not catch up to them. It makes
the whole affair clandestine. So why settle? It cannot be because there is a
shortage of men, because I doubt there ever will be that. If it is about money,
I am sure Yvonne has had her pick of them and surely many with less baggage
coming with them. So really, is there something wrong with our local TV
Theirs is out there
because they are in the limelight but women can be the worst decision makers
when it comes to relationships. The rest of us may be out looking in, and
clearly see that something is off but the woman in the relationship will bend
over backwards just to either keep up appearances or maybe she really is just
head over heels for the man.
Put it down to
desperation and the guy being there at the right time, she is up there in the
ladder and the biological clock is ticking, the only thing missing is family
and the guy just had the right opportunity as compared to those who came
Then there are the
ones who are taken in by the man’s illogical character. Let us just say that
when they are together, he gives her enough excitement to last enough screen
time. Both on and off it. No matter how you will try to convince her otherwise
you are instead pushing her into the man’s arms.
Being an anchor is hard work, you have to be prime and proper
24/7, so when there is that person who is the exact opposite of what you are,
then that is where the attraction really lies and maybe that is what these
women really crave and run after.
But then again we have the models of propriety to look up to like let’s say Julie Gichuru
and Caroline Mutoko.
