Kirinyaga - Irate residents of Kiangungu village, Kirinyaga County have burnt down the homestead of a man suspected to have killed his wife and later hiding her body under their bed.
The furious residents also destroyed the man’s maize and banana plantations to express outrage over the alleged heinous crime.
It is reported that the woman went missing on Wednesday last week, with the family’s house remaining closed since then.
A resident, John Nyaga said the entire village was concerned about the missing woman who was married in the area two years ago.
“As immediate neighbors to the family, we demanded to know the whereabouts of the woman and we forced the man to open the door of his house,” Nyaga said.

The witness said upon compelling the husband to open the door, a foul smell hit them.
They then called police officers who discovered the decomposing body of the woman under the bed, covered with a blanket.
Police however thwarted efforts by the public to lynch the suspect as he was escorted to Kerugoya police station under high security.
The body was moved to Kerugoya Level Four hospital mortuary for postmortem examination, police said.
The residents however decided to vent their anger on the suspect’s property including crops and houses where they slashed the crops and set the houses ablaze as they kept guard to ensure the property was reduced to ashes.
