Tenants vacate Embakasi's Taj Mall as title deed revoked

Nairobi - Embakasi's Taj Mall is being vacated by tenants as it prepares to be demolished after the National Lands Commision NLC revoked its title deed stating it was built on a road reserve.
The owners of the expansive Mall have been trying their best to defend themselves over the debacle but the NLC has dug deep and insisted that the mall needs to be torn down as it has been built on where the current Eastern bypass is located.
Tenants are thus on their way out.
" We are told that there will be no more Taj Mall, so we are leaving," a tenant who owns a boutique told News24.
The NLC had stated that there is no compromise over the mall as the owners built it knowing full well that the Eastern bypass needed to be expanded.
" They knew that the bypass needed to be expanded and they continued with its construction. We have given them notice," NLC chair Mohammed Swazuri said.
The Eastern bypass links the eastlands part of the city to Mombasa Road and Thika road.
