Vihiga - A body of a ten-year-old girl was Wednesday recovered from a fish pond at Ebunabo village, Tongoi location in Emuhaya constituency, Vihiga County.
The deceased had been sent by her mother to a nearby shop to buy kerosene before she disappeared on Sunday evening.
Confirming the incident, Luanda police station OCS Benjoliff Munuve said that the body was recovered at around 10am, after extensive search by the family.
“The parents searched for the girl for the last two days but could not trace where she had gone to, only for the body to be discovered in a nearby fish pond today (Wednesday) by passers-by,” Mr Munuve said.
Mystery surrounds the death of the kid as no one knows how she ended up into the fish pond.
Some of the residents expressed their fears that the girl could have been raped and died before being dumped in the pond, as cases of rape continues to haunt many innocent girls from the county.
However the OCS said that they could not speculate on anything as they awaited the report from the postmortem, before taking any action.
The body of the deceased was taken to Dolphin mortuary. For the latest on national news, politics, sport, entertainment and more follow us on Twitter and like our Facebook page!
