Nairobi - Teachers will remain on strike at- least until Thursday as they await the deliberation of an earlier court order stating that their mass action be suspended 90 days.
Kenya National Union of Teachers KNUT boss Wilson Sossion said Monday that until a deliberation by Industrial Court judge Nelson Abuodha over the matter will have to be sought first before any decision otherwise is made.
" We are still on strike. Nothing has changed," he said outside the court premises.
" I ask teachers to abide by the union and remain on strike. We were told Friday that the strike is legal and we have our own rights too, so we must remain steadfast," he added.
The move to Thursday was necessitated by judge Abuodha not being available Monday for the deliberation.
He had ruled Friday that the strike be suspended 90 days until deliberation by the two parties was tried and tested before teachers continued with their industrial action.
He had however called on both parties (Teachers Service Commision TSC) included come Monday to understand the requirements of his ruling.
Teachers are on strike to protest the non payment of A 50/60% payrise effected by the labour courts.
