A primary school teacher in Laikipia North through a human rights organization has written to Inspector General of police David Kimaiyo claiming that a priest had been sexually molesting her pupils.
Anne Resiano is also protesting over laxity by the area police to investigate the allegations, adding that the priest had also threatened her life.
“The teacher has on several occasions met the officer in charge of crime to inquire the progress of the case and was informed that the senior officers lacked the goodwill to pursue the matter,” Mungai Mbuthia, a human rights activist, said in the letter addressed to Kimaiyo.
Resiano claims that the priest had been sexually molesting pupils staying in church hostels at Doldol town.
He was allegedly visiting the girls in the hostels unaccompanied by the matron-in-charge as per the laid down regulations.
She says that she had reported the case to Doldol police station in October last year but no action has ever been taken saying that investigations seem to have stalled.
When contacted, Laikipia North police chief Benjamin Maritim said that he had taken over Resiano’s case but noticed that she was not pleased with the progress and therefore handed it over to the District Criminal Investigation officer who is currently pursuing it.
“I am aware that a letter had been sent to Kimaiyo over the same case,” added Maritim.
The letter further stated that the priest was transferred from the area in an attempt to kill the case.
The lobby wants Kimaiyo to intervene and order fresh investigations against the priest for allegedly molesting the girls and for the threats against the teachers for blowing the whistle.
