Nakuru - A secondary school teacher in Njoro committed suicide in a lodging after he discovered that two sex workers he had been entertaining had made away with his mobile phone worth KES 20 000 and KES 80 000 cash.
Nakuru Police boss, Benard Kioko in a brief to Journalists on Tuesday said that the 46-year-old suicide victim, who was until his death a teacher at a Day Secondary School in Njoro, is suspected to have committed suicide using a bed sheet.
“The lodging workers discovered his body on Sunday morning and reported the matter to Police in Njoro. The teacher is said to have taken a loan from a local Sacco and for the last two days, he has been entertaining sex workers in drinking dens in town. We suspect that he was overwhelmed by the loss of the money and committed suicide to avoid facing his family and undergoing financial strains,’’ said Kioko.
He said that a bank statement that was retrieved from the lodging room indicated that a total amount of KES 120 000 had been deposited in his account on May 13, and a withdrawal of KES 80 000 made on the same day.
Kioko added that Police had launched an investigation to arrest the sex workers while the body of the deceased was lying at the local Egerton University Funeral Home awaiting a postmortem.
