A primary school teacher has committed suicide at Majengomapya village in Malindi district on Monday night.
The deceased, Zacharia Mokua was found dangling from a net which he had used to commit suicide in a classroom of private school next to his house.
The HGM Primary School teacher is said to have been drunk when he committed suicide by those who met him during a drinking spree claiming that he was talking of his death.
Reports have indicated that the deceased was interdicted last year when he was in Gede Primary School because of being drunk and absconding duties before he was reinstated and transferred to HGM Primary School.
It is said that he was also interdicted two weeks ago because of the same problem of absconding duties due to drunkenness before he committed suicide.
Area chief Joshua Malingi said that the deceased has left two children and a widow.
Malindi district deputy education officer Selina Kibamba said she had no information if the teacher was interdicted two weeks ago.
"I can't comment on that it is beyond my reach but what I know is he has been going to work," she added.
Kibamba however disclosed that the teacher had a problem with his employer on payment issue since his salary was being sent to Tana Delta and sometimes to Lamu instead of Malindi district, a fact she noted may have stressed him and he decided to commit suicide.
The body of the deceased was taken to Malindi district hospital mortuary as investigations into the matter begun according to Malindi police boss Kiprono Lang'at.
