Take me to court if you can, confident Chirchir says

20 February 2015, 17:33 Victor Tinto

Nairobi - Take me to court if you have evidence against me, Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir has said of the chicken gate scandal.

Chirchir spoke after visiting detectives at the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commision in Nairobi Friday and explaining his role in the scandal.

Together with former Kenya National Examinations Council boss Paul Wasanga, Chirchir said that there was no evidence linking them to bribery and that if anyone has any, they should come forward and provide it to police.

" I am innocent of these allegations. I have never met these so called directors and anyone with evidence should report to EACC," he said.

Wasanga too said that he had never met the two directors of the Smith and Ouzman company and that he was also innocent of the said charges.

" I have never met the people who have been jailed and I implore anyone who claims to have any information to report," he added.

Officers from the EACC have grilled senior public officers said to have taken bribes from the officials the UK printing firm.

The officers, who include IEBC Chairman Issack Hassan, former IEBC CEO James Oswago and Chirchir and Wasanga are said to have received bribes from the directors of Smith and Ouzman printing firm in order to secure business contracts.

A UK court jailed the two officials from Smith and Ouzman after they were found guilty of bribing the officials during their tenure at the defunct Interim Independent Electoral Commission (IEBC).

They have so far denied the corruption allegations even as the EACC starts to probe their involvement in the alleged ‘chicken’ gate scandal.
