Nairobi - The Teachers Service Commission TSC is set to decide whether to pay teachers their September salaries following the end of the 5 week long strike.
TSC CEO Nancy Macharia said that there will be a series of meetings to decide whether teachers will be paid despite missing class for the whole month.
" There will be decisions to be made. We will decide in the coming days," she told News24 on phone.
The main issue is that some teachers had already been paid, with 43,000 of the 288,000 on TSC's payroll being paid. They were paid after being counted in on roll call during the strike.
It is not yet clear whether the rest will be.
Also, is the issue of 10,000 teachers who had already been contracted on a short term basis to cover for the absence of regular teachers.
It is not yet clear what the next move will be as regards them.
" Those are decisions we will make in the coming days," she added.
Teachers ended their strike Saturday in heeding to a court order by the Industrial Court judge Nelson Abuodha to suspend the strike for 90 days to allow for talks between both sides in a bid to end the matter.
He also ordered TSC to pay teachers their September salaries. Whether that will happen remains to be seen.
