20 March 2013, 17:25
The swearing in of County representatives and speaker of the Meru County Assembly will take place this Friday, the Interim Clerk to the County Assembly Justus Ariithi has said.
Speaking to the media in Meru on Wednesday, Ariithi said the ceremony will be conducted at the Meru County hall by Justice Lessist assisted by Rosemary Kimingi, the Meru High court registrar.
He said 45 elected County assembly members will be sworn in, adding the other 10 are yet to be nominated.
Ariithi added that only five ladies were elected as County representatives during the just concluded General elections, saying 10 more will have to be nominated to meet a 3rd rule of gender balance within the Assembly.
“They will be nominated and then gazetted so they could be recognized as County representatives,” noted Arithi.
