Suspected robbers arrested sleeping in a car

Nairobi - Police have Tuesday arrested two suspected robbers in Nyeri town who were sleeping in a car outside Central Hotel.
The alleged robbers were believed to be planning to raid an Mpesa shop when members of the public notified police.
“We believe they were planning a robbery attack or a criminal act. They had been sleeping in the car since 4 am and we became suspicious since recently we experienced a spate of robbery attacks in Mpesa shops,” residents said at the scene.
The police officers were in patrolling the town when the incident occurred.
When police approached the car, the suspects started the engine in efforts of trying to escape but in futility.
After a search in their car, police found three driving licenses, whhose photographs did not match the suspects.
“The suspects did not have their personal identification documents but we found them in possession of a woman’s identity card and three driving licenses,” said an Administration Police officer who ambushed them.
The car, Toyota Axio was towed to Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters for further investigations while the suspects were escorted to Nyeri police station for interrogation.
“The car had an expired insurance cover,” police added.
