Nyeri - Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) rangers have ganged down a suspected poacher in the expansive ranch of Solio in Kieni constituency, Nyeri County.
While confirming the incident, Mountain conservation assistant director Aggrey Maumo said the middle aged man was shot dead on Wednesday morning while attempting to escape.
Maumo said the deceased was in a gang of three other suspected poachers whom he said were heading to a poaching mission in the ranch.

“His two accomplices managed to flee away but we have launched a man hunt against them,” Maumo said while expressing confidence that they will be apprehended.
The rangers recovered some weapons including knives and pangas, torch, jackets and a sack from the suspects.
Maumo said the gang was in efforts of killing rhinos for their horns.
He said the rangers managed to botch the suspects’ plans after they got information from residents living close to the ranch which is situated between Laikipia and Nyeri Counties’ boarder.
He asked the residents to continue working closely with KWS officers to curb poaching activities which have increased in Mount Kenya region.
Last month, two rhino horns worth more than KES.6 million were intercepted at Chaka market and two suspects were apprehended.
