Supreme court suspends Mathare by-election

Nairobi - The Supreme Court has suspended the upcoming Mathare by-election following a successful appeal by incumbent George Wanjohi.
Wanjohi has placed a spirited last minute battle to try avoid a by -election and the Supreme court has granted him a short stay of execution whilst his appeal is heard.
The by-election was ordered in March following a ruling by the court of appeal which said that Wanjohi's ascension to office in the March 2013 general election was not in order following a petition by ODM's Stephen Kariuki.
The election has been scheduled by the IEBC for June 3, 2014.
