Supreme Court blocks Othaya by-election

Nairobi - The Supreme Court has stopped the upcoming Othaya by-election pending a court case challenging the polls.
The election was set for Tuesday April 29, 2014.
The case has been filed by deposed Othaya MP Mary Wambui who is challenging the legality of the upcoming by elections.
In her submission, she believes that there is no grounds for the by-election since she feels that there was no absolute reason for removing her from office in the first place.
The case will now be heard on April 28, 2014 to determine the fate of the by elections.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commision IEBC has thus been ordered to suspend the elections until further communication.
" The IEBC has thus been ordered to temporarily suspend the upcoming Othaya by-election pending determination of the suit, the ruling said.
Wambui's election was revoked by the High Court in February after it was determined that the elections did not meet constitutional standards.
