Kampala - Police in Uganda's central district of Buikwe are holding 23 students over allegations that they beat their school guard to death over food.
The killer students were from various classes at Buikwe high school. Police have identified the dead guard as Jero Ocitit, 30.
According to central Uganda police spokesman, Lameck Kigozi, the group of students last Sunday left their school in the evening and went to a nearby trading centre to watch a football match between Liverpool and Manchester united in a video hall.
''When they came back from the trading centre, they found that other students had consumed all food. They also got information that the guard also colluded with the other students to eat their food,'' said Kigozi.
He said that the students became wild and beat the guard to death. They also destroyed a lot of school property.
Parents of the students flocked Bukiwe police in attempt to get their children out of police cell but police insist they will have to answer to charges of murder in court.
