Students go on rampage after colleague kills self over missed exams

06 February 2015, 13:10 Arap Yego

Murang'a - Students of Murang’a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) on Thursday took to the streets in protest after one of their colleagues allegedly committed suicide after being barred from sitting his exams.

Business came to a near standstill in the busy town as the placard-welding students demonstrated following the death of their own.

They apportioned blame to the institution for causing the unnecessary death of their colleague, Denis Isiepai, who was in his final year at the medical institution.

It is said the deceased, 26-year-old student who hails from western Kenya, had been sent out of an exam room for having a fee balance of KES 15 000.

He went to his room where he allegedly ingested an insecticide, leading to his death.

Speaking to journalists, Murang’a police boss Johstone Limo who confirmed the incident, said the deceased was found unconscious in his room at lunchtime by his colleagues.

“He was found unconscious at 1pm in his room. A bottle of wine and another one of an insecticide used to kill bedbugs was found by his side. He was rushed to Murang’a District Hospital where he unfortunately passed on,” said the police boss.
