Stop waiting for the “Right Time”... Just do!

31 August 2015, 12:37 Ann Muigai

Nairobi - Waiting for the “right time” is the typical phrase used by many people, mostly the lazy lot. It’s sad how I have suffered this habit just because I do not want to take the risk. I know a couple of friends who have missed great life opportunities just because they were waiting for the “right time”.

A close acquaintance lost the great love of his life while still waiting for the “right time” to ask for her hand in marriage. A relative missed her only chance to conceive while waiting for the right time. Two years after her wedding, she carries self-guilt and blame.

Today, I would like us to reflect quickly on the mistake we have made and continue to make so many times. A habit that holds us back in life and makes us live in regret. On the surface, waiting for the “right time”  sounds like a good idea but usually, it just leads to nothing much. Often, we miss the prize while using this sneaky thought and only realize when it’s too late.

It is okay to get lost in a dream and in planning how to make it real. The common mistake we make is to drift away in daydreams of how it will be when we finally achieve our goal. As we plan on how we will adjust to the forthcoming changes, we, unfortunately, get stuck in fears about failing with it.

The fear of the unexpected thus crawls into our minds and drags us down. The choice here is usually to wait around for the “right time” to implement our plans. In the meantime, we lose direction and focus. In worst case scenarios, we lose the people we love and value most and miss lifetime opportunities.

Honestly, it is not always possible to get started with all our dreams and aspirations. Sometimes, you have to take the time to plan and draw a strategy on how to make it real.

But it is important to know just how much time gets you to the “right time”. I believe that there are several dreams you can get going with right away. The point here is to take small steps forward. Whatever you do today, do not stall and wait around for the “right time”. Ensure that you take small steps each day towards achieving your dreams and set goals.

Otherwise, you will be most frustrated each day when you look back and realize how much time you wasted. Focus, get started, this is the right time.
