Mombasa - A somber mood engulfed residents of Likoni's Ebeneza area following the death of a standard five pupil who was hacked to death while sleeping by an unknown person.
The incident took place at 2am Monday night when someone broke into the house of the boy and attacked him as he slept.
Gasho Bakari, a standard five pupil at the Joyland academy died on the spot after his head was chopped off by the unknown assailant who armed with a panga.
According to Likoni deputy OCPD, Anthony Shimoli, the assailant ordered Bakari to open the door and as he did, he jumped from the rooftop and killed him on the spot.
Shimoli said police are investigating possible links of the attack with the outlawed MRC group as locals decry insecurity.
“We cannot really say the 40 brothers were directly involved, but we are still investigating the motive and find out why the attacks are happening even as our security officer are on high alert,” said Shimoli.

Although the police have denied links to the recent attack, locals have recounted series of criminal activities within the region that they say are planned by people with a mission to cause mayhem.
The attacks have raised security concerns over the increasing insecurity threats which have left residents with sleepless nights.
A week ago, a group of over seven armed men attacked and robbed a Majengo mapya resident of his belongings as he headed home from work.
Police however said they are investigating whether Bakari was mistaken for his older brother who is a taxi driver and who lives with the deceased but had not arrived at the time of the incidence.
The mother of the deceased, Mwana Siti, was also hurt in the melee as she tried to confront the killer, leaving her with serious injuries on her right hand.
“My son and I were asleep when a tall dark man knocked the door and ordered us to remain quiet. He got inside and slaughtered my son before disappearing through the same rooftop hole he used to enter the house,” said the middle-aged woman.
