Sotik MP to quit ODM for Ruto's URP
27 September 2012, 14:12
Sotik Member of Parliament Dr. Joyce Laboso is scheduled to quit the Orange Democratic Party (ODM) and join the United Republican Party headed by Eldoret North MP William Ruto.
Speaking to news24 on Phone, Dr. Laboso said she was answering the demands of the constituents who had told her to join their party of preference.
‘’Yes the constituents have decided that I should join the party that they prefer and I have no reasons to resist since they are my employer’',she said.
The Sotik Mp is scheduled to defect to URP at a political rally to be held in Sotik town on Saturday and attended by party leader William Ruto amongst other politicians.
Over the last few days there have been defections ahead of the coming general elections in what Political analysts say they are the latest attempts by MPs to retain their seats through the preferred party in their backyards.
The increasing number of defections is due to the fact that the Political Parties Act of 2011 does not allow party hopping six months to the general elections.
