Nairobi - Kenya National Union of Teachers KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion has denied that he earns over KES 1 million a month following a leaked payslip that was allegedly his.
The details were leaked in an alleged payslip of his that was on Monday spread all over social media.
The payslip alleged that Sossion earned a pay of just under KES 1 million, which when tallied with deductions came up to a net salary of KES 663,000.
Sossion, who is currently leading the fight by teachers to have their pay improved, said that he has no idea where such rumours have come from and added that he had nothing to state about the payslip.
" The story is ridiculous. Ignore it please," he said on phone.
Sossion is leading a charge by teachers to get better pay and insisted that the unions will not give up until their members are offered better terms on an immediate basis.
" We want better terms as a matter of principal and that starts with better basic pay. Unless the issue of better basic pay is addressed, there will be no discussion, he added.
Earlier, the Salaries and Remuneration SRC had said that the demands by teachers are not feasible.
Chairperson Sarah Serem insisted that the demands by teachers are unsustainable and that the body would not agree to having them improved because they are unsustainable.
