Sony out to extend unbeaten run

24 February 2012, 20:03

The Kenyan Premier League enters its third week as all the matches that were slated for Sunday being shoved aside to allow Harambee Stars players to join camp ahead of their AFCON 2013 Qualifier against Togo on Wednesday. Only Muhoroni vs Chemelil  will be played on Sunday since none of those teams have players in the national team.

Sony Sugar will be out to extend their unbeaten run and stay at the summit of the standings. Sony Sugar vs Sofapaka- Gusii Stadium, 3pm- Pooled together in the KPL Knock out tournament, this will be a chance for Salim Ali and Zedekiah Otieno to size out each other before they meet in the Knock out tourney.

This will be definitely the match to watch over the weekend. Sofapaka will be seeking a win to climb up to the top of the table, with the team currently on 4 points at position 3. A win will see them on seven points. Bob Mugalia (Injury) and James Situma (ITC/Release letter) will miss the match on Sofapaka’s side while Sony will be missing Isaiah Omondi.

On head to head basis, Sofapaka stands at a better platform with 6 Wins, 1 Loss and a draw in their last eight meetings, including the KPL Top 8 tourney last year where Sofapaka eliminated Sony.

Thika United vs Ulinzi Stars- 3pm, Thika Municipla Stadium-  Thika United have not won a match nor scored a goal since the start of the league two weeks ago. They will be welcoming Ulinzi Stars at the Thika Municipal Stadium, a venue where Ulinzi have not collected maximum points for the last three years.

After losing 1-2 to KCB in their opening match, Ulinzi fought back to a 2-1 win over flower men Karuturi Sports in their next encounter.
Thika lost 2-0 to Gor Mahia in their first match before drawing 0-0 with Chemelil last weekend.

AFC Leopards vs Oserian- Nyayo National Stadium, 4pm- The On form Leopards will be out to extend their unbeaten run with Oserian their next opponents. Coach Koops is oozing with confidence after a 2-0 win over Mathare last weekend, taking his troops to second on the table. A win will see them top the table assuming Sofapaka and Sony play to a draw.

Oserian are also not to be under estimated as they recruited heavily before the start of the league. They are out to bounce back after suffering a 2-1 setback against league leaders Sony last weekend.

Nairobi City Stars vs Karuturi Sports- Nyayo National Stadium, 2pm

A Stubborn Nairobi City Stars which has always proved to be a hard nut to crack to all the Premier League teams will be meeting flower men Karuturi at the Nyayo National Stadium in the early kick off.

currently placed 13th on the table, they are looking to revive their fortunes and get back to winning ways with coach Gideon Ochieng clearly outlining that  they are aiming at a good start of the league.

Muhoroni Youth vs Chemelil Sugar- Muhoroni, Sunday 3pm

The boys from Muhoroni will be charged with their latest victory over Gor Mahia on Wednesday. They will be welcoming Chemelil Sugar in the Sugar belt derby that promises to light fireworks.

Chemelil are yet to see the back of the net this season and might be suffering from the exit of their goal poacher Victor Ochieng who left for Ingwe.
