Somalia against Kenya's building of border wall

Nairobi - Somalia has said it is yet to be consulted on plans to build a wall along its border with Kenya.
The Kenyan government is going on with plans to erect a wall as well as other facilities along the 860 kilometre long border shared by the two countries to help in the reduction of terror attacks and banditry that have afflicted the north Eastern region for years.
According to Somalia's embassy in Nairobi however, the plans have yet to be discussed between the two nations and thus the plans are premature in their view.
The ambassador to Kenya Ali Noor told News24 that the plans, despite being effected by Kenya need to be spoken about by the two nations before work begins on the ambitious project.
" We appreciate the plan by the Kenyan government which is to reduce the effect of terrorism in the border shared between the two states and want to state that the Somali government supports efforts to kill off radical activity," he said.
" That said, there has been no consultation so far from the Kenyan government about the said plans and despite the project being facilitated by it and the territory also being its, it is important to seek the way forward since the border is a shared one," he added.
Interior CS Joseph NKaissery said last week that the wall's construction would begin this week and will encompass the whole region in-order to ensure the reduction of terrorist activity in the region.
The wall's construction will begin in Mandera, which has been heavily affected by attacks from Al Shabaab militia crossing over from Somalia.
