The current Siaya County leadership has been challenged to let the people chart their way forward and make an informed decision on who they want to lead them in the new dispensation.
This was said by the current deputy resident representative of Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Kenya, Gideon Ochanda who stated that the county positions enshrined in the constitution are elective and should not be distributed as proposed by a section of leaders.
Ochanda who is eyeing the Siaya county governorship post said that distributing leadership positions will deny the county some of the best leaders with integrity it ought to have had and that this will also contravene the electorates’ right to choose their leaders independently.
He urged the area electorates to choose leaders irrespective of where one comes from within the county, and further challenged them to instead focus on an individual’s development track record and capability.
Ochanda challenged the people of Siaya county to ensure they take time to understand the role of each and every elective post, arguing that for instance the senate role will be more of legislative while that of the governor will be executive, hence the need to have a comprehensive knowledge of the new structures.
The aspirant was addressing journalists at his home in West Yimbo location Bondo constituency, where he formally declared his interest for the Siaya county governor post on an ODM ticket.
He also suggested that this time round the ODM nomination should be left open to all party members as opposed to the delegate system.
